The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has presented fire fighting
materials to some fire volunteers at Bia West and Juaboso Districts in
the Western Region.
Mr James Emmanuel Quao, the Deputy Western Regional Fire Commander,
presented the items to Mr Emmanuel Miah, the Juaboso District Fire
Officer, during anti-bushfire campaigns organized at Sefwi-Essam and
Sefwi-Juaboso respectively.
Mr Quao said more of such materials would be delivered to equip them to perform their work efficiently.
The GNFS has registered more than a thousand fire volunteers in the
Region to augment the efforts of the Fire Service personnel in combating
fire incidents.
Meanwhile, the volunteers requested for more items from the GNFS,
including motorbikes, rain coats, identity cards, mobile phones and
spraying machines.
Mrs Georgina Agyare-Kwabi, Deputy Director of Rural Fires at the
GNFS, pledged the Service’s commitment to provide the necessary
logistics to enhance the work of the volunteers.
She said the bushfire legislature required anyone burning his/her
farm to inform the fire volunteers for supervision and afterwards
beneficiaries pay fees to them, in order to sustain their activities.
Mrs Agyare-Kwabi said those who do not comply with the law would be arrested and fined.
She appealed to the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies
(MMDAs) to support the work of the GNFS in their respective districts,
in order to minimize the incidents of fire outbreaks in the country.
