Mayday: 4 Mich. firefighters trapped in roof collapse

They were pulling ceiling tiles when drywall fell on them; they were uninjured but one firefighter was unable to move

Four firefighters escaped injury after a roof collapsed on them during a house fire.
9and10news.com reported that a mayday call was sent out when flames ripped through the roof of the house.
"The fire was above us in the attic so we were kind of pulling down some of the ceiling tiles and we were putting water up there to try to get all of it out and some of the dry wall started falling on us," firefighter Dale Hall said.
Firefighter Hall said his first instinct was to find the rest of his crew. One firefighter used his radio to tell Hall where he was located.
"We got down underneath the debris, established that that firefighter was OK, they just couldn't really move," he said. "The two of us pried the debris up off her and got her out."
Crews also fought other obstacles at the blaze, including ammunition inside and lack of water sources.
"It doesn't take hardly anything for a situation like that to turn from what it was, a close call, to a tragedy," Hall said. "Teamwork is big. We practice it. A lot of us are friends outside of this. You're not just helping your co-worker. You are helping your friends out. You are basically helping your family."
No one was at home when the fire started and the four firefighters continued to battle the blaze after self-rescuing.
