Assin Breku: Pupils escape unhurt from burning bus

A bus belonging to Boa Amponsem Senior High School at Dunkwa-on-Offin caught fire as it transported students back to campus Thursday February 18, 2016.

The school bus was on a return trip to Dunkwa-on-Offin from Assin Manso when it caught fire at Assin Breku, but no casualties were recorded.

According to the Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service at Assin Fosu, Ernest Bruce, the bus contained 50 students and teachers of Boa Amponsem Senior High School, who had partaken in a sports event at the Assin Manso Senior High School in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

However, upon arriving at Assin Breku, the vehicle suddenly caught fire and spread to the passenger section, but rescuers helped to evacuate its passengers, all of them students and teachers, before the bus burnt completely.

Eyewitnesses said they suspect the fire may have been caused by an overheated engine. Investigations, however, have begun into the cause of the fire.
