A 10-bedroom house at Berlin top, a suburb of Fiapre in the Sunyani West District was last Monday evening burnt totally.
Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO) Ignatius Noekor, Brong-Ahafo
Regional Operational Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS)
who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday in Sunyani, stated that the Service had a call around 1700 hours about the incident and rushed to the scene.
ADO Noekor said the Service had to call for another fire Tender due
to the intensity of the fire before it could be brought under control.
He said the personnel realised at the scene that the fire extended
from a nearby electricity cable that had ignited because of a bush fire
closed to the house.
ADO Noekor advised the general public to cultivate the habit of
weeding around their houses especially in the dry seasons to save their
properties.
He expressed worry about the high number of fire incidents even
when the first quarter of the year had not ended, adding that in
January alone the Region has recorded 142 fire cases, 77 of which were
bush fires and 26 domestic.
ADO Noekor said on February 1 alone, the Service attended to 13
fire outbreaks in the Region, which was very threatening to the
country’s economy because the situation could result in poverty and
hunger.
