He made the call at a joint meeting held with 13 fire volunteer groups and other stakeholders including selected chiefs in the Mampong Municipality.
Divisional Officer One (DO1) Mensah, who is a member of the task force set up by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to investigate and find ways to tackle the annual bushfires, said all must be assisted to do the right things to avoid starting these fires.
The task force is touring all parts of the country and had already visited the Volta region.
He advised farmers to make sure that they engaged trained fire volunteers in their land preparation ahead of crop planting.
He expressed concern about the activities of the Fulani herdsmen, blaming them of some of the wildfires and urged the assemblies to act decisively to deal with erring herdsmen.
The Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, Mr. Semekor Fiadzo, underlined the need to reactivate dormant fire volunteer groups in the communities and encouraged farmers to offer themselves to be trained as volunteers to protect their own investments.

A house without an elder is an empty house and also it lacks tradition and a referee.

You dont appreciate what you have unless you loose it...... we should keep on fruastrating our officers forgetting that we need their knowledge and counselling. Our sister services are getting opportunities because their ex. officers are now in politics or some holding some vital key positions of the state but come to our service and our story is a different one. We are very good of helping them to die untimely, some times i weep for the officer who enlisted me into the service in 2008 at Ho. How knowledgable this officer is but look at what they are doing to him? What breaks my heart is after killing them, then that same people are the ones who write nice speeches and read at their funerals. We need an attitudinal change or else we will continue to be at where we are till thy kingdom comes. .......A house without an elder is an empty house and also it lacks tradition and a referee.

Where are we Heading to as a Country?

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has really spoken my mind and not only me but a lot of Ghanaians too. It is just sad that Ghana is preparing to celebrate 58th anniversary after independence and we cant even provide power to run the activities of the nation. Business upon businesses are collapsing, employers are laying off their employees and people are becoming unemployed. Our priority as a country is to buy power from our neighbouring countries to enable us watch the Black Star play at the AFCON and also fly party sympathizers to tournaments at the expense of the state. I'm beginning to ask myself whether this education thing is a curse to our generation or not because our so called leaders ( Doctors, Professors and others). This highly educated personalities are only good and known for crafting nice stories to tell their citizens. They try very hard to do away with morals, home sense and common sense.Sometimes i wish i am not part of this our current generation because it's truly a shame.

Fire Service intervention prevents gas explosion

 Fire Service Interview
The timely intervention of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) prevented a gas tanker from exploding at Akotsi Junction, near Budumburum in the Central Region last Thursday.

The gas tanker, which contained 13,880 litres of gas, was heading to Assin Fosu in the Central Region when the driver realised that the tanker was leaking.

The driver was said to have immediately called the fire service whose swift response prevented the gas from exploding.

The incident

Confirming the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Mr Billy Anaglate, said firemen from the Budumburum Fire Station arrived at the scene within seven minutes of receiving the call around 2:54 p.m. last Thursday.

He said within seven hours firemen reduced the temperature of the gas which was on the verge of exploding, with foam chemical.

According to Mr Anaglate, the tanker, with registration number, GN9005-11, had loaded from Tema and was heading to Assin Fosu to offload when the driver noticed the leakage and parked to call the fire service.

The incident, Mr Anaglate said, was caused by a fault in a component of the tanker.

He said the remaining gas was salvaged and loaded into another tanker.

2 Children burnt to death at Twemasen

Two children were burnt to death beyond recognition when fire gutted a house at Twemasen, a suburb of Offinso in the Ashanti Region.

Identified only as Nhyira, nine months old and Vanessa, two years, the children were said to be sleeping when their house was caught up in flames last Monday.

Their mother, who is believed to be a health worker at the Offinso Health Centre, managed to escape from the house, but she is yet to be located.

Her disappearance has since made it difficult for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Offinso to investigate the matter.

The remains of the two kids have been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

The cause of the fire has not been ascertained, but some eyewitnesses have attributed it to a suspected electrical fault.

In separate interviews, they said it was around 10 p.m. last Monday when they heard the mother of the kids screaming for help.

The Acting Offinso Municipal Fire Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) II, Mr K.E. Glalah, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said the GNFS received a distress call at around 11:16 p.m. last Monday that a house had caught fire at Twemasen in Offinso.

He said upon arrival at the scene, the fire had already engulfed the boys’ quarters attached to a six-bedroom house.

Mr Glalah said with the help of personnel from the Offinso office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and residents, the fire was brought under control before the remains of the deceased could be retrieved.

He said the GNFS was investigating the matter.

Ghana Announces Plans for Combat, Trainer, Transport Aircraft Buys

Among the aircraft Ghana plans to acquire is the Super Tucano.
GABORONE, BOTSWANA — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama says his government has set aside $300 million for the purchase of new combat, trainer and transport aircraft to support United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Speaking at the opening of the Ghanaian Air Force’s new aircraft maintenance hangar and logistics warehouse at the Air Force Burma Camp in Accra, Mahama said the Air Force will get new Super Tucano light attack/trainer aircraft from Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, one CASA 295 heavy-lift transport aircraft from Airbus Military in Spain, Mi-17, Mi-35 attack and transport helicopters from Russia, and Harbin Z-9 helicopters from China.
He said the new aircraft will be used to secure the country and support UN peacekeeping operations in several nations.
“We must sustain the atmosphere of peace and security needed for the development of all sectors of the country. To do that, we must continue to invest in the latest equipment not only for the Air Force, but for all the security agencies,” he added.
Mahama said the aircraft are due for delivery by the end of 2015. The new aircraft hangar, which has fire fighting facilities, ambulance service, and servicing and maintenance facilities, was financed by the Brazilian National Bank of Social and Economic Development. The hangar is equipped with a bus, a fire combat vehicle, an ambulance, a refueling truck, a self-supporting water supply system and power generators.
The hangar is the Air Force’s third aircraft storage and maintenance facility. The others are located in the cities of Tamali and Takoradi.
Mahama said the commissioning of the new hangar marks a new era in Brazilian-Ghanaian relations as the South American country continues to bankroll the economic and security needs of the West African nation.
Air Vice Marshal Michael Samson Oje, Air Force chief of Air Staff, said the hangar would serve the maintenance and safety needs of all aircraft and improve transport expertise and technology.
“We in the Air Force are not oblivious of the fact that these aircraft maintenance hangars are national assets borne out of the sweat of the taxpayer. We promise to maintain and take good care of these vital assets. We also promise to use them judiciously to perform our tasks efficiently to the benefit of our beloved nation,” he added.
The Ghanaian armed forces is engaged in UN peacekeeping operations in Mali, Ivory Coast, South Sudan and Lebanon.
Brazil is also funding establishment of the Ghanaian Flight Training School, several road projects and the construction of an international airport in the central city of Tamale.
